266/06DECLARATIONS OF INTEREST

None.

267/06TO APPROVE A SIGN ERECTED ON DOUBLE GATES TO SHOW ENTRANCE TO CLIFF FIELD GARDENS

It was agreed that a sign marked “entrance” with an arrow pointing to the footpath, should be erected on the Beer Road contractors’ gate. In addition, a “no dogs” sign needed to be replaced on the new contractors’ gate on the southern end.

268/06TO RECEIVE FFEDBACK ON SOUTH WEST IN BLOOM AWARDS

It was noted that Seaton had won a silver gilt award. Neighbourhood Awards had also been presented to Seaton Primary School for its school pond, and an outstanding award to the Labyrinth. It was agreed that the school’s certificate should be presented to them and at the request of Dave Kelf, that the Labyrinth certificate should be displayed at the Town Hall.

The judge had advised the chairman that for future years, the Committee might like to give consideration to involving more people when taking the judges around Seaton, to introduce them to projects. The Neighbourhood Awards judge had also offered to speak to committee members. It was agreed that he should be invited in the new year.

269/6TO NOTE INSTALLATION OF TWO PICNIC TABLES AND A MEMORIAL BENCH

Noted.

270/06TO AGREE ON PLANTING NEEDS

Discussion took place on the upgrading of Cliff Field Gardens. Mr Hurford was requested to consider appropriate specimens to replace the buddleias.

It was agreed that the request from Seaton Twinning for a boules pitch at the Gardens should be referred to the Finance & General Purposes Committee.

271/06TO AGREE ON SPONSORSHIP PLAQUES BEING SECURED

It was noted that three plaques had been removed from pots and one plaque had been broken. The chairman asked the committee to consider ways in which the plaques could be secured.

272/06TO DISCUSS PLANTING ON THE MORIDUNUM

It was agreed that the planters on the Moridunum needed refurbishment, in particular the wooden ones needed re-staining. It was noted that little survived in that situation but Mr Hurford was requested to consider ivy and berberis.

27306TO DISCUSS FUTURE ARRANGEMENTS FOR FLORAL AREAS

It was suggested that a map of all Seaton’s gardens should be produced which could be incorporated in an enlarged Town Guide.

It was agreed that one of the plastic 3-tier planters at the Moridunum should be removed and replace the two baskets on the pavement area of the Beer Road outside Orchard Street car park.

Members were advised that South West in Bloom entrants would in future be judged in the winter as well as the summer.

274/06TO NOMINATE A COUNCILLOR TO WATER TOWN HALL CONTAINERS

It was noted that these tubs had to be watered because they were sheltered from the rain. The chairman agreed to undertake this job and other members of the committee asked to water them inbetween times if required.
