Seaton Seafront Enhancement Scheme gets the go ahead

Seaton Town Council’s planning application for the Seafront Enhancement Scheme was approved by East Devon District Council's Development Management Committee on Monday 7th August. This development is part of the Council’s ongoing efforts to improve the facilities and appearance of the Town for the benefit of residents, businesses and visitors and to raise the profile of Seaton more widely. Extensive public consultation took place prior to the final planning application being submitted.

The development will be on the western end of the Esplanade between the bottom of Castle Hill and Beach Road. It will greatly improve the look and function of the seafront by providing a multi-purpose public space at the main access link between the seafront and the town centre, replace the Moridunum with a purpose built new building suitable for a variety of uses, improve vehicle and pedestrian access, including a new bus stop lay-out, pedestrian crossings and changed parking facilities. There will be a raised walkway with seating and space for ‘beach hut’ kiosks to encourage new and existing business opportunities.
